According to Het Laaste Nieuws, Everton ‘have’ Jonathan David ‘on the radar’ and may have to battle Manchester United, Arsenal, Ajax, Inter Milan and FC Porto to procure his signature.
The 20-year-old has is coming off the back of a fantastic season at KAA Gent, but he won’t come cheap. Technical Director Michel Louwagie has said a €25m bid for David will ‘not be enough’, despite it being nearly 400% more than Gent’s most expensive sale – Sven Kums (£6.75m to Watford).
David joined the Belgian outfit on a free transfer from Ottawa International Soccer Club in January 2018 and has gone on to make 83 appearances in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and making 15 assists. The Canadian international has scored 23 goals and made 10 assists in 40 games this season, so it’s easy to see why so many clubs are interested.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is coming off the back of a disappointing campaign at Everton and could be moved on this summer, so David would be a fantastic replacement. Whether Everton can beat out all the interest to bring him to Goodison Park remains to be seen, however.
