Everton`s recent impressive run at form was dented when struggling West Ham managed to whisk 2 points away from the blues who went in front not once but twice and still came away without the full complement of points.

In truth it was probably a fair result with Everton being far away from their best with the influential Mikel Arteta still struggling with injury.

It was Saha`s turn to start up front for the toffees as Moyes continues to refuse to start a more attacking 4-4-2 formation.

The long term injury to youngster Dan Gosling saw Senderos make his own return from injury and was included on the bench.

Ian Turner also featured on the bench for the mysteriously absent Nash.

West Ham enjoyed a good amount of possession in the opening 15 minutes and did a good job of stopping Everton play much of the passing football we have shown at Goodison during the past few weeks.

Saha had a chance to trouble Green but thrashed his effort high and wide into the stands.

England hopeful Carlton Cole showed some of his quality as he burst through the Everton defence and was barely halted by Distin and Jags.

Halfway through the 1st half Everton made a crucial breakthrough with just their first attempt on target. A Baines cross was headed onwards by aerial genius Tim Cahill and Bilyaletdinov bagged himself a rare headed goal past the stranded goalkeeper.

Everton looked to build on this lead by turning on the pressure with some neat passes on the edge of the West Ham area. Despite some neat passing there was only one chance of note that came from it, a strike from Tim Cahill from the edge of the area after being allowed space went narrowly wide with Green beaten all ends up.

Just seconds after that West Ham went up the other end and won a soft penalty after Distin made minimal contact on Carlton Cole. Distin was booked for the challenge despite being the last man and surely preventing a goal scoring opportunity.
Mido stopped daydreaming long enough to take the penalty but his penalty looked to be comfortably saved by Howard thus denying Mido his first Hammers goal.

In response to the penalty Everton came forward and Saha was unlucky that after good control and turn his goal bound strike was blocked well by Da Costa.

The blues went into half time 1- 0 up.

West Ham came out the better in the opening moments of the second half with Nobles` chip over the head of Tim Howard crashing off the crossbar.

Then on the hour mark West ham drew level with a deserved goal after their second half play. Carlton Cole won the ball in the air from a corner and it flew to Da Costa who turned the ball past Tim Howard after some suspect defending from the Everton backline.

6 minutes later Moyes makes his first change and brings on the Yak in place of Bilyaletdinov.

Everton looked a little brighter after the substitution and started to create more chances of their own.

Everton then had their own claims for a stonewall penalty turned down by ref Howard Webb after Saha had been hacked down inside the area by Da Costa.

The game was starting to get stretched with some great pieces of counterattacking football.

Yakubu blazed a shot over the crossbar after being fed from a corner kick.

West Ham subs the still daydreaming Mido for Ilan with just 12 minutes left to play.

Carlton Cole managed to lose his marker in the area and get away a shot but it was straight at Tim Howard.

Jags just cleared the crossbar with an overhead effort from inside the area from a good delivery from a corner by Baines.

Rodwell comes on late on for Heitinga who once again impressed in the midfield role.

Seconds later Everton retook the lead with just a few minutes to go after Baines put in yet another good cross which was met after a great leap by Yakubu who seemingly had come back to haunt the Hammers once again.

No more than 3 minutes had passed before the Hammers had come fighting their way back into the game. After a quite frankly superb cross by Faubert into the 6 yard box substitute Ilan put the ball into the bottom corner with a well executed diving header.

In the latter minutes Tim Cahill looked as if he was struggling, another niggling injury is the last thing Everton need in their desperate push for European football next year.

The game ended 2-2 which leaves Everton in 8th just 4 points from Aston Villa but they have a game in hand. Everton would also be wise to keep a eye on Birmingham who remain 4pts behind us after drawing against the Kopites.

Player Ratings

Howard 8 Man of Match
Great penalty save and not convinced he could have done any better with the goals. Was fairly solid from crosses too.

Neville 6
Didnt do a great deal wrong or right for that matter his crossing was still no good.

Jagielka 6
Wasnt very solid when faced with Carlton Cole and didnt really seem confident in anything he did

Distin 6
Similar story to that of Jags in that he seemed to struggle with the physical presence of Cole.

Baines 7
Great crossing at times and wasnt really troubled down the wing

Osman 6
Got stuck in and worked hard other than that offered very little.

Heitinga 6
Not his best performance but was certainly solid enough.

Bilyaletdinov 7
Nice to see him amongst the goals, some of the wayward passing I associate with him but did work hard.

Pienaar 6
Was kicked a couple of times and linked with Baines would be good to see him hit the target more than he is doing.

Cahill 6
Was close to appearing on the scoresheet and will claim a good assist for the goal.

Saha 7
Some good movement and control when he was on the ball but seemed to suffer from lack of quality service into his feet.

Yakubu 7
Great headed goal and looked lively when he came on.

Rodwell 5
Didnt really play for long enough to get a proper mark.
