Pundit Compares Everton Player To Reported Real Madrid Target

|

Everton star Gylfi Sigurdsson has had a decent season under the charge of manager Marco Silva, and he’s contributed 14 goals across the campaign along with an additional six assists and his importance to the side is well known. Speaking ahead of our scoreless draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday at Selhurst Park, pundit Phil Thompson compared the 29-year-old very favourably indeed to highly rated Tottenham Hotspur player Christian Eriksen.

With Sigurdsson showing further improvement this year, yet Eriksen often spoken about as a potentially £100million plus target for the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, Thompson was quick to point out on Soccer Saturday (27/4 – 2.44pm) that he felt they were very similar players, with our Icelandic international actually outscoring his Spurs counterpart – nine goals and but 17 assists.

“I think he’s always been a very good player, always been a player that I like. You talk about players who can play in that offensive role, behind the striker, number 10, he’s got the assists. We talk about Eriksen, this boy is quite similar. You can say all you want about defending, he scores goals like that (v Man Utd) throughout his career. It’s nothing new. I think he’s really stepped up. It’s somebody that you can build upon.”

Age is slightly more on Eriksen’s side admittedly and I don’t think Thompson’s comparison is actually that accurate in terms of the role that each player takes for their respective teams, but it’s certainly good to see him getting the plaudits for his recent efforts.
