In-form Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi is reportedly being scouted by European Giants, AS Monaco ahead of the fast-approaching January transfer window, according to Turkish Transfer expert, Ekrem Konur

However, the toffees are hoping to tie the midfielder down to a new long-term contract amid interest.

Since converting to a role which sees him playing in a midfield three under Frank Lampard, Alex Iwobi’s career on Merseyside has taken a total U-turn.

The Nigerian international moved to Everton from Arsenal in 2019 for a reported fee of around £27 million [via Transfermarkt].

At the time, the fee was seen as astronomical for a player who had not yet fully proved himself in the Premier League. A lot thought the deal was done out of ‘panic’ because the club failed to agree on a deal for first-choice winger, Wilfred Zaha previously in the window.

Although the early signs showed his EFC career could be successful, with goals in his first few games against Wolves in the Premier League and Lincoln City in the League cup, this optimism slowly dwindled out.

Iwobi was linked with several moves away from Goodison Park prior to the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager, but since his appointment, the midfielder has looked an entirely unrecognisable player and arguably the club’s best player since Lampard’s arrival.

So far this season, he already has 6 assists and a goal to his name. This tremendous run of form is obviously likely to spark rumours of interest from top clubs, with the latest being from Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco.

Monaco are having a fairly mediocre season by their standards, sitting in 6th place after 13 games this season, whilst also still being unsure whether they will qualify out of their Europa League group, with their final group game against Crvena Zvezda taking place tonight.

Although the rumours that the French side are scouting Alex Iwobi could well be true, it seems highly unlikely at this stage that the midfielder would leave the club, especially with how his career is shaping up at the moment.

He is going into the most crucial years of his career, turning 27 next year. Lampard and his team will be trying their utmost to tie Iwobi down to a long-term contract to fend off any more interest that comes in.
