Derby County boss Paul Warne has praised Everton loanee, Lewis Dobbin after he scored his first goal in League 1 and put in a Man of the Match performance in his side’s 1-0 win over Cambridge United.

Dobbin joined Derby County on loan during the summer window after having somewhat of a breakthrough season in an Everton shirt, making 5 first-team appearances including his Premier League debut.

Although he would put in a fair few good performances when he first joined the League 1 outfit, he would find goals hard to come by.

Dobbin would grab two goals for the Rams, however, one being in the FA Cup and one being in the EFL Trophy.

Despite not starting Derby’s last two fixtures, Dobbin would be put back into the starting lineup by Paul Warne for his side’s fixture against Cambridge.

The home side would dominate most of the game and would finally find the breakthrough after 57 minutes when Lewis Dobbin nodded home from close range after Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s deep cross.

After the game, Paul Warne praised the 19-year-old for his performance [via Limericklive]:

“All the players make mistakes and I’ve got no issue with that, but it’s all about being brave enough to keep doing things and that’s what Dobbs did.”

“He did some things outstanding, some things good and some things poor, which was the same with all the players.”

“But it was a good header. I’m being nice if I say headers are not among the best of his attributes but for him to score his first league goal like that and for it to be the winner is a great feeling for the kid.”

Derby now face a visit from Accrington Stanley at Pride Park after the new year and will be hoping to maintain their good form in the hunt for promotion.
