Opinion: Out-of-favour Everton man could leave this summer, available for £20m

Cenk Tosun could be on his way out of Everton this summer with the Blues putting the centre-forward on the transfer list for £20m. Marco Silva is expected to sign at least one striker when the season comes to a close but only if he can offload Tosun.

According to Phil Kirkbride of Liverpool Echo, Everton tried to sell the 27-year-old in January but couldn’t find a club willing to meet his asking price. Tosun was forced to stay for the remainder of the season, but a departure looks inevitable over the summer.

The Turkish international has struggled for form and playing time at Goodison Park and finds himself behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in the pecking order. He’s scored just two goals 21 Premier League appearances in 2018/19, the last of which came all the way back in October.

Since joining from Besiktas in January 2017, the German-born striker has netted eight goals in 39 games and has amassed just 16 minutes of playing time since February – Tosun has been an unused substitute in three of Everton’s last four games.

The money from his sale will be used to fund a replacement, but the Merseysiders may stick with the centre-forward if they can’t find a suitor willing to pay the £20m Everton spent a year ago.
