Opinion: Everton may have to pay £20m and £4m wage for centre-forward

|

In February, Calciomercato revealed that AS Roma wouldn’t offer Edin Dzeko a contract extension to keep him at the Stadio Olimpico past 2020 which could be music to the ears of Everton who have been linked with his signature.

The 33-year-old nearly joined Chelsea 12 months ago but the deal fell through and he remained in Serie A. Dzeko has gone on to contribute 10 goals in 19 league starts but his future at Roma is uncertain again.

As per Il Messaggero, the Bosnia-Herzegovina international is a target for Everton but he won’t come cheap despite his advancing age. Dzeko has a market value of £20m and earns £4m-a-year/£77k-per-week at Roma.

The Toffees might be reticent to pay so much for a player with little resale value, however. Everton are in the market for at least one centre-forward, with Cenk Tosun rumoured to be up for sale this summer, but Dzeko would be a gamble.

That’s not to say the striker wouldn’t improve the squad over the short-term, however. Dzeko scored and created 74 Premier League goals in 130 games for Manchester City and has gone on to contribute 121 goals in 169 outings since joining Roma.
