Opinion: Everton defender may have uncertain future, here’s why

|

Lucas Digne has been a standout performer for Everton and is staking a claim as one of the best left-backs in Europe. The 26-year-old has made 52 appearances in all competitions since joining from Barcelona, scoring and creating 14 goals, but his future at Goodison Park could be uncertain.

Everton are struggling in the Premier League this season and find themselves closer to the relegation zone than the top-four. Digne’s fine form could lead to interest in January, and the French international might consider a move away unless Everton can turn things around.

Marco Silva’s men sit 15th in the table with 14 points from 12 games, have lost 50% of their league outings and have conceded five more goals than they’ve scored (13) this season. It’s hard to see Digne staying while Everton are underperforming, so he could have his head turned by a European giant.

Could Lucas Digne leave Everton in January?

As per WhoScored, the 26-year-old has made 12 league appearances, racked up 1063 minutes of fooball, made three assists, created 31 chances, won 34 aerial duels (67%), had a 71% dribble success rate, made 33 clearances and averaged a tackle (24) or interception (14) every 28 minutes.

Everton need to improve before January or else they’ll risk losing the best players in their squad.
