According to Football Insider, Olympiacos are preparing an offer for Yannick Bolasie. The 31-year-old is surplus to requirements at Everton and is in the last year of his deal, so we need to cash in this summer while he still has value.

If we can’t offload Bolasie, we’ll have to foot his wages for his final season and will then lose him for nothing when his contract expires. Whether we can agree a deal with Olympiacos remains to be seen, however.

Bolasie wants to stay but Carlo Ancelotti isn’t having it

There is a lot of animosity from supporters towards Bolasie, but I find the situation sad. It was exciting when he joined from Crystal Palace and put on the Everton jersey, but things went downhill just months into his debut season and would end up spiralling rather than improvement.

Bolasie has scored just two goals and made four assists in 32 games for us, racking up more collective appearances on loan at Aston Villa (21) RSC Anderlecht (17) and Sporting CP (25). The DR Congo international’s last Everton outing came in 2018, so his exit has been on the cards for some time, but Bolasie clearly wants to stay.

He’s been busy on social media, is seen to be working hard in training and featured in pre-season, but Ancelotti hasn’t given him a sniff since the campaign begun.

Bolasie was left out in our 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur (September 13), EFL Cup win over Salford City (September 16), 5-2 win over West Bromwich Albion (September 19) and 5-2 win over Fleetwood Town (September 23).

James Rodriguez, Bernard, Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Richarlison have been preferred to Bolasie, so he has no other choice but to seek a move elsewhere.

Problems with Olympiacos’ interest

Football Insider say Olympiacos are only willing to sign Bolasie on loan and may only pay a percentage of his £75k-per-week/£3.9m-a-year wages. We need to sell up and will want his salary covered by the Greek outfit, so this isn’t an offer worth accepting.

Whether Olympiacos make an improved offer for Bolasie before the summer transfer window closes remains to be seen, however. He’s so far proven a difficult player to sell.
