Official: Everton midfielder to miss Manchester United clash, return date revealed

|

Everton have confirmed that Andre Gomes will miss Sunday’s meeting with Manchester United due to suspension. The 25-year-old was given a retrospective three-match ban after accepting a charge of violent conduct following a challenge on Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

He’ll miss games against United (April 20), Crystal Palace (April 27) and Burnley (May 3) but will return for Everton’s final Premier League outing with Tottenham Hotspur. Gomes has made 28 appearances in all competitions since joining the Toffees on loan from Barcelona, scoring and creating three goals.

The Portuguese international has racked up 1961 minutes of playing time in the league, averaged 46 passes-per-game with 85% accuracy, made 41 successful dribbles (73%), won 38 aerial duels (56%) and averaged a tackle (39) or interception (20) every 33 minutes.

He’s been a fantastic acquisition but is due to return to his parent club in the coming weeks unless Everton can turn Gomes’ loan deal permanent. In his absence on Sunday, Marco Silva could turn to Tom Davies alongside Idrissa Gueye at the heart of the midfield.

The Blues are currently ninth in the Premier League table with 46 points from 34 games and can finish seventh if they have a strong end to the campaign.
