Marcel Brands must act to secure Everton transfer fans will love – report

|

Everton fans have loved having Andre Gomes at Goodison Park this season, but the Toffees’ hopes of keeping the Portuguese midfielder hinge on Marcel Brands, according to Mundo Deportivo.

It had been noted in January that Barcelona would be open to selling the central midfielder when the season ends, and that they will not step in the player’s way by demanding an excessive transfer fee given they paid Valencia – a base €35million (£29.3m) – back in 2016.

If we are to sign the 29-cap international, however, Brands will need to fly out to Catalunya to negotiate a deal, as the La Liga leaders are said to be waiting for our Director of Football to visit their offices to start discussions.

Mundo Deportivo’s report also states that Gomes himself is happy on Merseyside, which will play in our favour against the reported interest of Tottenham Hotspur and any other side that enters the frame in the coming months, with suggestions that there are clubs gathering information at present.

Although, despite Everton stating their intent to open negotiations and clubs looking into a move, Mundo Deportivo’s sources have told them that Barcelona are yet to receive any official offer for the playmaker.
