Everton have confirmed that we have signed Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City on a loan spell tonight.

Signed late on in the day, the correct paperwork was in ahead of the deadline slamming shut so we took advantage of the extra time granted in those circumstances to get the deal of the line and he was officially confirmed shortly before 1am.

Having played a key part in their run to the 2015/16 Champions League semi finals, Mangala has only made nine appearances for Pep Guardiola so far this season and he’s looking for greater game time.

The 26 year old told the Official Site.

‘I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play for Everton and I cannot wait to pull on the royal blue jersey for the first time and give my all for the supporters.’

Having began his career at Standard Liege, making his debut as a 17 year old back in December 2008, he won the Belgian title in his first campaign with the club and moved to Porto in 2011 having left Standard with a goal in their Belgian Cup final victory on his farewell performance. Whilst with Porto he helped them to two league championships.

He was also a key part of their side that went unbeaten through 2012/13 where the only conceded 14 goals.

Capped eight times by his country and a member of the French 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championship squads, since moving to Manchester City in 2014 he has 79 Premier League games under his belt.

He took in a loan spell with Valencia in 2016/17, playing 30 times.
