Key Everton man makes pledge to the fans that could save Silva’s career

|

Everton’s form hit a bump in December and has failed to improve since, which has only put more pressure on Marco Silva.

Lucas Digne, however, has made a vow to the fanbase, via the club’s official website, stating that the players are devoting themselves to delivering better results and securing a strong finish to the season.

For that to happen, Everton will need to overturn a run of form that has returned 11 points in 14 games, and begin to close the gap to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Watford.

The two sides currently hold a six and four-point advantage over us respectively, but should we overturn that – and either Manchester side win the FA Cup and qualify for Europe via the league – then seventh place would be enough to earn a Europa League birth.

Odds on that happening without an upturn in form are slim, but the French ace, who quickly became a fan favourite in his short spell of time with us, is confident that the squad will continue to gel and results will follow.

“We know where we need to work and the most important thing is to stay together with the fans,” said Digne. “We are giving everything in training and want to continue to work and finish as high as we can.

“We are building something in the Club. We are changing a lot of players, new players, like me, like Richie, we need a bit of time. When we change a lot, we need time to build something serious, something very good.

“Now we work for the rest of the season and for next season, too. We are looking up and we want to finish as high as we can. That is the most important thing.

“We have a lot of big games at Goodison and we want to play well at home in front of the fans, they deserve it because they support us all the time.”

If Everton can put on the show Digne is keen to deliver, Silva will be counting his lucky stars that his second managerial spell in England did not end in the same fashion as his Watford days.
