Injury boost as Everton defender could return ahead of Arsenal clash, player is ‘recovering’

|

As per BBC Sport, Duncan Ferguson has been given an injury boost ahead of Everton’s Premier League meeting against Arsenal with Djibril Sidibe ‘recovering’ from illness. The 27-year-old missed Everton’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United (December 15) and EFL Cup defeat to Leicester City (December 18).

Sidibe was replaced at right-back by Seamus Coleman for both games and may now have to be patient before returning to the starting lineup. BBC Sport say the French international is on the recovery trail, but Ferguson won’t risk selecting Sidibe if he isn’t 100% fit. He left the defender out of the matchday squad on Wednesday, so there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready for Saturday.

Coleman began the season as Everton’s first-choice at right-back, but he’s had to play second-fiddle to Sidibe since being sent off in the Toffees’ 1-0 defeat to Burnley (October 5). The Republic of Ireland has returned to the starting eleven, however, and could keep his spot against Arsenal for the sake of continuity.

What will the result be vs Arsenal on Saturday?

Toffees win

Draw

Gunners win

A late decision could be made on Sidibe’s condition, but it’s likely he’ll be named on the bench if passed fit.
