What a difference a year can make, this time last year Alex Iwobi was disguising himself with a hoodie and snood just to enjoy football with friends until Frank Lampard came in and unleashed the new Alex Iwobi that Evertonians are raving about week in and week out.

Well, that might just be me, but he has been very good.

In an interview with iNews Iwobi spoke about how just to be involved in football he would disguise himself sometimes twice a week.

“I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but I would play football with my friends, especially when I wasn’t in the team.

“Little games, maybe twice a week, just to enjoy it. I never lost my love for football, even though I saw all the negativity.

“We played at a place in Manchester. I always wore a hat and snood, otherwise people would have recognised me. There were about 16 of us. At first, I knew about five people, but once I went regularly, I got to know everyone. It was good fun.” – iNews

After the summer additions of Gana Gueye and Amadou Onana who Iwobi describes as “midfield monsters” he also believes that the ambition for the club to push on and do well was part of why he joined and that ambition is still evident now with Iwobi saying. “With our squad we should be aiming for Europe”

Some statement considering last season, and after last night’s defeat in the Carabao cup where Lampard made XI changes to his side it is clear for everyone to see that starting XI we should be higher in the league, but the second we lose a player to injury we see the cracks and that was apparent last night.

This season and next summer’s transfer window are going to be about a rebuild for Everton and Frank Lampard and unfortunately, it is going to take time before Everton can get back to challenging for Europe, but we have seen with Mikel Arteta and Arsenal when things click, they click.

As for Iwobi, he has been like a new signing since the arrival of Lampard and with his form rumours of a new contract for him in the pipeline over the last month have been discussed.

Do you believe Alex Iwobi is worthy of a new contract?
