Davy Klaassen has had a difficult debut season for Everton. The midfielder was brought to the club last summer by fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman in a £23.6 million deal from Ajax.

The 2016 Dutch footballer of the year was a priority signing for Koeman but played a much less significant role under Sam Allardyce, who limited the midfielder’s playtime to just 17 appearances all season. Allardyce declared Klaassen was an “anomaly” and claimed Everton could not afford the “luxury” of fielding the creative midfielder.

Now with Allardyce’s regime over the Dutchman has another – and perhaps his last – chance to make an impression in Everton blue. The former Ajax captain will be hoping that he will have a man in his corner in the shape of new director of football, Marcel Brands.

However it is understood that Silva and Brands are eager to trim the squad down and with reports suggesting Klaassen could be used as a makeweight to bring in Croatian World Cup star, Domagoj Vida, the Dutchman’s time to make an impression at Goodison Park is surely limited.

What do you think? Should Everton look to get rid of Klaassen even at a reduced fee or should he get another shot to make his mark?
