How Manchester United stopped Everton signing World Cup Star

|

Ajax forward, Mohammed Kudus is lighting up the World Cup with Ghana, scoring 2 goals in their recent 3-2 victory over South Korea. But, he could have easily signed for Everton in the summer

Kudus has scored 5 league goals and 2 Champions League goals for Ajax so far this season after having only managed a singular goal in the whole of last season.

Being in such great form, it was no surprise that he was called up to the Ghanaian national team for the Qatar World Cup.

In his first game, he provided a sublime assist for Andre Ayew to bring his country level early in the second half, but they would, unfortunately, go on to lose the game 3-2 to Portugal in their tournament opener.

However, they would face a much easier South Korean side in their second fixture and would run out 3-2 winners, with Kudus being the star man and providing 2 goals which would turn out to be the winners to keep his country’s last 16 hopes alive.

Although Kudus now looks likely to be the subject of interest for many top European sides in the January window, he could have joined Everton during the summer transfer window.

Reports during the summer suggested that the toffees had even agreed on a fee with Ajax for the signing of the 22-year-old. However, due to Manchester United closing in on a deal for Brazilian winger, Antony, the dutch champions did not want to lose another attacker, so any potential deal involving Kudus to Everton collapsed.

So far this season, this has proven costly for the blues as they look severely thin in attacking areas, only managing 11 goals in the Premier League so far this season.

A deal could still be completed in the January window, but considering his performances so far in the World Cup, his price is likely to increase rapidly between then and now.
