Everton Forward Happy to Get Off the Mark

|

Everton Women forward Katja Snoeijs has revealed that she was pleased to get her first goal for the club during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United but insists that the team can perform even better.

“I’m very happy with my first goal and the win tonight,” said the 26-year-old. Joining the club from Bordeaux in the summer, the Netherlands international was recently described by Everton Women manager Brian Sorensen as “one of the best” finishers he’s ever worked with, though until the victory over Sheffield United, Snoeijs’ goals have been limited to the training pitch.

“What Brian (Sorensen) said, I have felt the same. In training, it’s not like I don’t score goals, but I think I was a bit unlucky in games and have been waiting for the right moment. I feel like Lucy (Graham) give me the right chance today to finish and get my goal. I knew I was in the box, so it was just one touch then finish. In the box, I am at my best and chances like that I take.”

The win puts the Blues in a strong position at the summit of Group A in the Continental League Cup, with five points from the opening two fixtures, but the Dutch forward believes there is still room for improvement.

She added: “It does [put us in a good position], but I think in the end we still need to learn from how we played today because there’s a lot to improve even though we got the three points and three goals, I still think there’s much to improve and we need to do better to compete against (Manchester) United and to have a good chance to go through.

“But in the end, the win is the thing that counts, we needed the three points, and we did it so that’s the thing we are happy about”.
