‘Great news’, ‘Brilliant’ – These Everton fans react as club reward “absolute machine” with new deal

A few Everton fans have been reacting on social media after the Toffees agreed on terms to a first professional contract with highly-rated youth prospect Tyler Onyango.

Onyango has been a part of Everton’s academy set-up for the past nine years and has put pen to paper on his first professional contract aged 17, with the deal keeping the young midfielder on Merseyside until at least the summer of 2023.

The teenager has been rewarded with new terms for his performances in the Blues’ youth sides this season, having stepped up from the Under 18s to the U23s and featuring in the club’s Leasing.com Trophy fixtures against Crewe Alexandra and Fleetwood Town.

Onyango, an England U17 international, is highly thought of by club staff at Everton for his skilful, athletic abilities in the centre of midfield, as well as boasting a tireless work ethic and having an eye for goal.

Youth coach Paul Tait previously lavished praised on Onyango for his physical stature at 6 ft 3 but urged supporters not to expect too much too soon, telling the Liverpool Echo: “He’s an absolute machine in terms of his physicality, so he catches your eye straight away.

“His out-of-possession stuff is very good, but I wouldn’t get too carried away. I think we get too carried away sometimes and build these young players up.

“I think he’s still got loads to do, I’ve watched all of his under-23 games and he’s done some good bits and some bits where it’s been a bit too quick for him which is understandable because he’s only 16.”

Fans have reacted to Onyango penning his first professional terms in a handful of ways, with many happy to see the teenager’s immediate future secured…
