Anthony Gordon has made a bright start to the Premier League campaign, scoring 2 goals in 7 league games this season, 2 goals away from matching his scoring tally in the Premier League last season already.

The 21-year-old was heavily linked to a move to Chelsea in the summer, but the deal failed to materialise, leading to him remaining at Everton.

Gordon made his debut for Lee Carsley’s England U21 side in 2021, scoring 2 goals on debut in a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic. Since then, he has represented the young lions 9 times, scoring 4 goals. But he is yet to receive a call up to the first team from Gareth Southgate.

Frank Lampard was questioned in his most recent interview about Gordon’s chances of making the World Cup squad with England [via Everton Football Club – YouTube]

“It’s Gareth’s decision, I can’t talk for him.” “Anthony just has to keep working on every part of his game”.

Anthony Gordon spoke about his aspirations to make the squad to go to Qatar, as reported by Patrick Boyland [via The Athletic]

Gordon stated: “I’m 100% focused on making the world cup squad. If it doesn’t happen, it’s completely out of my control but I’ll give it my best try”.

It would seem that an argument has to be made for Anthony Gordon to be part of the squad, considering the level of his recent performances and the increase in his average level of output of goals, outscoring players in his position such as Jarrod Bowen and Mason Mount so far this season, both of whom are considered to be in contention to make the squad for the world cup.

Do you think Anthony Gordon deserves to make the England squad to go to the World Cup in Qatar?
