It’s a testament to a youngster’s ability when the first-team manager bigs up their chances of being in the senior squad, and Anthony Gordon seems to be close to making the step up at Everton.

Speaking recently to Everton’s official website, Marco Silva admitted that the 18-year-old Gordon was close to making the move up to the first-team, with the Toffees manager saying: “He (Gordon) is really close (to a first-team call).”
The teenage attacker has been in fine form for the Toffees development side this season, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that Gordon has scored six and assisted another two in six games for Everton this campaign.
With Gordon impressing for the youth side and Everton seemingly looking short of ideas in the attack in the first-team, many fans on social media were eager to see the teenager make the leap to the first-team.
Here is what some Everton fans had to say about Gordon on Twitter…
Get him on the bench atleast!

It’s not hard put him on the wing and get richarlison upfront because he’s wasted out wide

Silva sees Gordon as a winger not a striker. He mentioned Richy and the depth we have on the wings.

Some fans, though, criticised Silva for not starting Gordon yet…
Yeah because we’re doing really well up front at the minute Marco!

Why do we have a youth team if none of them are given a chance in the first team.

“really close to a first team call” roughly translated means “It won’t be any time soon. And probably won’t be for Everton!”
