Explained: How one decision from Marcel Brands could see Everton make a £17m loss

|

According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Everton could make a £17m loss on Cenk Tosun in January. Marcel Brands is willing to sell the 28-year-old for £10m, two years after spending £27m to sign him from Besiktas. Tosun has scored nine goals and made four assists in 45 games for Everton, and has spent 2019/20 on the periphery.

The Turkish international has made just two appearances this season, racking up 51 minutes of playing time. Tosun has been left out of the matchday squad on three occasions and has been an unused substitute four times under Marco Silva. He turned down a move to Qatar over the summer but is likely to leave Everton when the winter transfer window opens.

There may not be a lot of interest in Tosun as he’s scored just four goals in all competitions since April 2018. The 28-year-old’s poor form has led to a lack of playing time, so his stock couldn’t be lower right now. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean and Richarlison are ahead of the striker in the pecking order too.

Tosun wanted to stay at Goodison Park and fight for his place, but Everton cearly don’t have a place for him in the side.
