Former Everton star Kevin Campbell believes that the Blues need to make the loan signing of centre-half Conor Coady permanent, preferably before we face his parent club again this season.

The defender was unavailable for the visit of Wolves last month, as Everton fell to a 2-1 defeat against the Midlands side, but a deal in the region of just £4.5 million has reportedly been agreed between the two clubs to see the England international make the move to Goodison a permanent one.

However, whether such a deal could be finalised this month is unclear, though it is more likely that the transfer would be agreed in the summer window according to former Blues striker Kevin Campbell.

Indeed, Campbell insists that while it would be ideal to recruit the 29-year-old Coady on a permanent basis before our May 20th trip to Molyneux, in what is likely to be a crucial fixture for the Toffees, Everton may have to wait until the end of the season.

Campbell states, “I don’t think it’s going to be permanent until the end of the season, because I believe they have the option to sign him.

“Whether that could be done in January I don’t know, because don’t forget you’re going to play Wolves again away.

“So, if you can make it permanent in January then you try to do that.

“I don’t know the ins and outs of why, but I don’t see why for that small amount of money, £3million or £4million, you don’t.

“And he’s been captain when he’s played so it’s cheap money considering.”

Indeed, the signing of an experienced Premier League centre-back for as little of £4 million would be a very smart piece of business from Everton, especially while the club’s finances remain unstable, but any deal may also depend on who is in the Everton dugout, with Frank Lampard’s current position very uncertain.
