Former Everton and Wales defender Ashley Williams has been charged by the FA for improper conduct and violent behaviour at his sons under-12’s game in September.
According to DailyMail the former Everton captain who was signed from Swansea in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £12M entered the field of play to confront the opposition manager after he had intervened when Williams’ son had been involved in an altercation on the pitch.
Williams is said to have reacted angrily and allegedly grappled with the oppostion manager, getting him in a headlock infront of his wife and son. When other parents stepped in and tried to diffuse the situation, Williams wrestled free and went back to confront the opposition coach before finally being escorted away from the pitch with whitnesses telling the DailyMail
It is yet to be clarified what had made Williams act in such a manner, but a spokesperson for Williams said the following.
“Ashley had been assaulted and was defending himself. We have 45 witnesses – including people associated with the two teams who were about to use the pitch – who will back up our version of events and we will defend Ashley vigorously.’
