“Things you love to see” – So many Everton fans celebrate club “legend” for “class” gesture

Many Everton fans have been celebrating Duncan Ferguson on social media after the Blues legend gifted a supporter a signed jersey for their 50th birthday.

Mark Nordhoff, who has been a season ticket holder at Goodison Park for the last 35 years, shared Ferguson’s ‘class’ gesture to Twitter on Wednesday, February 19 after the former striker visited his home.

Ferguson handed the loyal supporter a signed replica of our current home Umbro jersey, with the message “To Mark, happy 50th birthday, Dunk” penned on the back.

Members of the Goodison Park faithful have been lauding Ferguson for the gesture, as it showed ‘what a guy’ the 48-year-old is.

Ferguson played 253 games for the club over two spells on Merseyside, having first joined the Blues from Rangers in 1995 and later returned from Newcastle United in 2000 as he embarked on what would be the final six years of his career.

Could Ferguson one day replace Ancelotti?

Yes

No

Over his vast outings in Royal Blue, the former Scotland international scored 65 times in all competitions, with his most prolific league campaign coming during the 1997/98 Premier League season with 11 strikes in 29 games.

The Stirling-born striker would later go on to serve as interim head coach after Marco Silva was fired last year, overseeing four matches at the helm in which the Toffees beat Chelsea 3-1 and drew 1-1 with Manchester United and 0-0 with Arsenal.

Ferguson is currently acting as one of Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant coaches, with the Italian seeing him as a ‘really important’ member of his staff.

In other Everton news, the club are unlikely to target a 9-cap ace in the summer, despite Ancelotti’s eagerness for a deal in January.
