Explained: Which striker with 20 league goals will Everton have to pay £30m to sign?

According to the Daily Mail, Everton have entered the race to sign Odsonne Edouard and could battle Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City for his signature.

Carlo Ancelotti has Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean at his disposal, but he could benefit from another prolific striker to strengthen Everton’s push for a top-six finish next season.

After a successful loan spell in 2017/18, Edouard joined Celtic on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain and has gone on to make 125 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 89 goals. He cost £9.3m in 2018 but is now worth £30m.

The 22-year-old has been outstanding this season, contributing 44 goals in as many games, so he’d certainly improve the Everton squad. Celtic are desperate to keep Edouard at Parkhead, however, as no player in the Scottish Premiership has more goals than the French U21 international (20).

Edouard’s arrival would be bad news for Kean, however, as he’d likely fall further down the pecking order under Ancelotti. The 20-year-old has scored only one goal in 25 appearances this season and has only started three Premier League games since September 2019.

Kean still has more than four years remaining on his deal at Goodison Park so it’s unlikely he’ll be offloaded permanently this summer, but the Italian U21 international may not be guaranteed regular playing time next season if Edouard is signed.
