Explained: Everton may have to pay £40m and £4.7m wages to sign Chelsea man

|

According to the Daily Express, Everton are keen on Michy Batshuayi and could make a move for the Chelsea striker this summer. The Toffees are in the market for a new striker to potentially replace Cenk Tosun, but Batshuayi won’t come cheap. The Belgian international has a £40m asking price and earns £4.7m-a-year/£90k-per-week at Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi is currently on loan at Crystal Palace as he’s deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea. The 25-year-old has scored three goals in 11 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles. He still has two years left on his deal at Chelsea but a summer departure looks on the cards as he’s hardly featured for the Blues in the last two seasons.

With Gonzalo Higuain and Olivier Giroud ahead of Batshuayi in the pecking order, the centre-forward should be open to a move away from London. Everton could look to take advantage, but they’ll have to match his asking price to stand a chance of talking to the Belgian. Chelsea paid £33m in 2016 to sign Batshuayi but will be in line to make a profit this summer.

Whether he’s worth the money remains to be seen – nine goals in 41 Premier League games (Chelsea, Crystal Palace) isn’t the most convincing return.
