It was being reported yesterday that Everton manager Marco Silva had created himself a little ‘Bomb Squad’ at Finch Farm it’s not entirely surprising to find out who is suggested to be in the little group now banished from first-team training.

Having a ‘Bomb Squad’ at a club isn’t a new concept, plenty of other clubs have had their own variant of such a group in recent times. The question for fans isn’t usually whether they agree with the players bombed out or not, it’s generally about whether it’s a sensible decision to marginalise players you don’t want and lower their value by the inference you are desperate to get rid of them, or whether the greater benefit is removing them from the ‘banter’ of the main group and not letting dissenting voices enter training.

My own thoughts are more along the lines of, if not training alone/together, what about the damage and message it sends to the Under 23 group as many clubs put them at that level but in Everton’s case, this shouldn’t be a massive issue as all four are likely to be out the doors quickly I would think.

The four in question are reportedly Kevin Mirallas, Ashley Williams, Cuco Martina and Nikola Vlasic.

Vlasic is the only one that stands out given his age of 20-years-old and £10million price tag, but maybe Silva is simply removing him from the limelight as we sort a possible loan for him as the Under 23 setup isn’t that great a demotion for him given his age, so maybe shouldn’t be overly read into.

Williams is already reportedly in talks with Stoke over a deal and Mirallas with Fiorentina and Martina is the kind of fullback who could easily move back abroad or down to the EFL levels given we would presumably only be asking for a nominal fee at best.
