Everton Stadium Reaches Latest Milestone

|

The construction of Everton’s new stadium on the banks of the river Mersey continues to gather pace, with the first vertical support trestle now in place in the South Stand in preparation for the installation of the latest section of roofing.

Emerging from the post-industrial heartland of Liverpool’s northern docklands, the stadium’s concrete terracing is now clearly defined on the city’s iconic waterfront, with work well underway on all four sides of the ground. In a video update posted via the club’s official website, the progression of the stunning development is sure to leave Evertonians excited at the sight of the club’s soon-to-be home beginning to take shape.

Meanwhile, the stadium, which is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2024/25 season, has been shortlisted as part of the UK and Ireland’s joint effort to host the 2028 European Championships, with Everton’s Chief Executive Officer Denise Barrett-Baxendale stating, “We are proud that Everton Stadium and the City of Liverpool has been shortlisted to form part of the UK and Ireland’s strong bid for Euro 2028. We believe our new waterfront stadium and the City of Liverpool can offer resources and infrastructure that make it a perfect location for one of the most celebrated and anticipated tournaments in our sport.”

A bid to host the prestigious tournament has also been submitted by Turkey, though Russia’s proposed bid was ruled out by UEFA following the invasion of Ukraine, meaning that the UK and Ireland’s collaborative effort will have competition from only one other nation. UEFA’s executive committee will decide on the winning bid in September 2023.
