Everton must act on recent reports to sign the perfect Coleman successor – opinion

|

With Everton struggling to cement a consistent run of form under Marco Silva, deep-rooted issues in the roster have become ever more clear, but recent reports suggest the ideal right-back could soon hit the market.

Paris Saint-Germain defensive ace Thomas Meunier had emerged as a Toffees target in January in a potential swap deal for Idrissa Gana Gueye, but the Parisian outfit were reluctant to deprive Thomas Tuchel of one of his options in order to solve a different area.

The emergence of Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba is, however, understood to have signaled a change of thinking in the French capital, as Le10 Sport are now reporting that the Belgian will likely be available when the current campaign ends.

The 27-year-old is set to be out of contract in the summer of 2020, and the lack of negotiations over a new deal only serves to strengthen the chances of the 36-cap international moving on.

If we were to signal our intent to sign Meunier early, it would be an ideal move to make as he could become a mainstay at Goodison Park for years as Seamus Coleman’s perfect successor.

The Irishman is not the defender he once was, and Jonjoe Kenny is yet to convince all that he can make the grade as his replacement, whereas Meunier has regularly delivered despite his deprived standings at the Parc des Princes.
