Everton make £25m nine-goal striker their January priority

|

Everton are looking to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window and the priority for Marco Silva is to improve his options in the final third, having failed to replace Romelu Lukaku after he joined Manchester United in 2017.

The Sun states the Toffees are eyeing a £25m swoop for Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias, who has scored nine goals in LaLiga to help establish the Catalan side in the top half of the table.

Silva wants to sign a recognised centre forward to allow Richarlison to move into his more natural position out wide, where he has been a lot more effective, and a fee of £25m would activate the 25-year-old’s release clause.

However, persuading Iglesias to leave the club he only signed for in the summer will be a difficult task – especially as Espanyol, sat 10th in the table, are just four points behind the top six and potential European football.

With Idrissa Gueye heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, the midfielder’s sale could help raise funds to secure a deal for Iglesias.
