Everton loanee shines in outstanding Sunderland victory

|

Everton loanee, Ellis Simms earned himself the Man of the Match award after Sunderland’s 3-0 win over Millwall in the EFL Championship this morning, bagging himself a goal and an assist in the process.

Simms joined the Black Cats during the summer window on a season-long loan after previously being linked with a move back to Scottish side, Hearts earlier on in the window.

He started the season off well in the Championship, scoring 3 goals in his first 2 matches on Wearside before picking up an injury keeping him out of action until late October.

Since recovering from his injury, he has managed 1 goal and 1 assist in 3 games, moving his tally up to 4 for the season.

Although Sunderland would concede a fair few chances during the first half, they would finally find the breakthrough, with Ellis Simms teeing up Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo for the opener.

Alex Pritchard would double their lead 5 minutes later after some good work on the edge of the box and a powerful finish.

Some poor defending from Milwall would let Simms pounce in added time, lifting it over the keeper before tapping into an empty goal for his 5th of the season.

Sunderland move up to 10th in the Championship, 21  games into the season and may now even be dreaming of playoff football, only sitting 1 point out of the playoffs.
