Everton linked with move for CL regular

|

According to Sportal in Italy, Carlo Ancelotti would consider a free transfer signing of Thiago Silva in the summer transfer window once it is open for business.

The veteran defender was once seen as one of the best in the world, but has perhaps lost some of his powers in recent seasons.

Even so, he remains a good centre-back with experience that dwarves many of those around him and has the kind of knowhow in European competition that Everton need to add.

In Carlo Ancelotti, the Blues have a manager that knows the Champions League inside out but the aim needs to be to get in the players that know how to get there and then stay there.

Silva, then, would be able to provide both and the report suggests a free transfer could be arranged – so in that sense it is a no-brainer.

Of course, there are no guarantees.

The move itself isn’t a foregone conclusion and then he might arrive and simply not be the right fit but, in terms of the latter point, that seems unlikely.

He’s a leader and knows Ancelotti from working together in the past, whilst other South American influences at the club should be able to help with any other remaining issues.

If the wages aren’t too extortionate, this could be a move worth taking a look at.
