Monday’s printed L’Equipe – via Sport Witness – claims Everton have made a bid for Lille defender Gabriel, with the report also saying that he is likely to leave the French club when the summer window has opened up for business.

The Blues are going to be linked with numerous players between now and the summer window and it looks as though Gabriel is perhaps the most prominent of all the transfer rumours doing the rounds at the moment.

The Blues, once the window eventually opens, will hopefully look to add to their side considerably.

Carlo Ancelotti has arrived at the club and he is bound to have sought some sort of assurances that he’ll be able to spend in the coming windows in order to shape the side how he wants.

Indeed, it would be silly from the club to bring someone like him in and then not back him financially in the market, so you’d think there’ll be a few deals getting done once the window is open for business.

Gabriel appears to be one man we’re particularly keen on, then, but the report does suggest that the Blues are going to have competition for his signing and so that could well be something that comes into play.

Indeed, it suggests that Lille have fielded more than one bid from different clubs for his services and so it remains to be seen who wins out, though with Ancelotti in charge we should feel like we can win many of these battles.
