Everton are reportedly the front runners to land Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu ahead of Liverpool and Italian Serie A side Inter Milan.

Everton’s search for a new long-term goalkeeper understandably is ongoing.

Replacing Tim Howard is not an easy task. His recent performances might not have been up to scratch, but that’s because he himself set the bar so high.

The 37-year-old joined Everton almost ten years ago, initially on loan before making the £3million move from Manchester United permanently. He has made 411 appearances for Everton and is likely to add to that before the end of the season despite not featuring since January.

They are some big gloves to fill.

One potential target has been reported as Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

If that were to happen it’s likely that Chelsea will want to recoup the £8million they paid Stoke for him last year and such the Express believe Everton will match that price.

Another target and one that would be considerably cheaper according to the Mail is Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The 29-year-old despite playing in the Championship is highly thought of, as demonstrated by his call-up to the England squad in the absence of Joe Hart.

According to the Mail: Everton manager Roberto Martinez considered a move last summer and Heaton is on the Goodison club’s list again as they weigh up replacements for Tim Howard.

A third option has been suggested and that’s Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen.

But more recently it seems that Everton have been closing in on PSG’s Sirigu who has fallen out of favour in Paris and is currently playing second fiddle to Kevin Trapp.

The 29-year-old has 15 international caps for Italy but could be available on the cheap in the summer.
