Everton interested in signing 20-year-old Spanish midfield prodigy

|

Everton are keeping tabs on Serie A star and former Barcelona youth prodigy, Joan Gonzalez valued at around £12 million by current club Lecce, according to recent reports in Italy.

Gonzalez joined Barcelona’s youth ranks in his native Spain back in 2019 as a 16-year-old.

Despite being trained as a midfielder, he was moved to centre-back at Barcelona but only spent 2 seasons at the club before moving to Italian club Lecce in 2021 on a free transfer.

Since moving to Lecce, he has moved back into midfield. He spent his first season in Italy playing for the youth side but has broken into the first team this season after some fantastic performances.

So far he has appeared 15 times in Serie A, grabbing himself 2 assists and even scoring a goal in a 1-1 draw with Monza back in September.

According to CalcioMercato, Everton are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old with the January transfer window fast approaching but will face competition from West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur for his signature. [via HITC Sport]

The Catalonian is valued at around £12 million by the Italian club, a very reasonable fee for a player of the talent and potential of Gonzalez.
