Over the last 24 hours rumours have been circulating that Everton have made a £21 million bid for Barcelona’s Colombian centre-half, Yerry Mina.
It is certainly a transfer rumour that has captured the imagination of Evertonians who have reacted to the news on social media with a mixture of delight and derision.
The 23-year-old has been a stand-out performer for Colombia at the World Cup and became the first defender in the tournament’s history to score a goal in each of his first three games.
Impressive performances from the 6 foot 5 inch defender have left admirers wondering why the Colombian was limited to just 6 appearances for the Catalan club last season.
Mina’s lack of game time last term combined with Barcelona having a limited quota for non-EU players have sparked speculation the player is set to leave Camp Nou.
The Spanish champions paid just over £10 million for Mina in January as the Colombian signed a five year deal with a reported €100m release clause.
It is understood that Barcelona would be open to selling on the condition that they retain a buy-back option on Mina.
Everton fans have been busy reacting on social media. For the most part, supporters are excited but a few are sceptical of the deal going over the line.
