Everton could miss out transfer-target, blow for Marco Silva and Marcel Brands – opinion

|

According to Gazette Dello Sport, Edin Dzeko wants to stay in Italy if he leaves AS Roma this summer. The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to Everton and West Ham United, but the report says it’s unlikely that Dzeko will return to the Premier League. Inter Milan are currently leading the race for his signature.

It’s a major blow for Marco Silva and Marcel Brands. The Everton manager is in need of a prolific striker for the 2019/20 campaign and Dzeko ticked every box that Brands wants in a striker – a target man with a good eye for goal and mobility to evade defenders.

Dzeko isn’t getting any younger, but he’s proven at Roma that he’s far from finished. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has scored (86) and created (36) 122 goals in 174 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants in the last three years.

This season, the experienced striker has contributed 21 goals in 35 games. He’s won 104 aerial duels (58%), made 31 successful dribbles (53%), has created 35 chances and hits the target with 41% of his shots. Unfortunately for Everton, they’ll have to turn their attentions elsewhere in the summer transfer window.
