Demarai Gray’s stunner vs Manchester City on the weekend has won Match of the Day’s, goal of the month for November and December as voted by the viewers.

In third place was Eddie Nketiah’s goal for Arsenal at West Ham with 21%. Miguel Almiron’s goal for Newcastle vs Leicester on Boxing Day was in second place with 22%, but in first place with 32% of the votes was Demarai Gray’s rocket from the weekend vs Manchester City.

Demarai Gray is the epitome of what I call a ‘Match of the Day player’, excellent in phases (like on Match of the Day) but when you watch him week in, week out he is one of the most frustrating players. It is clear to see that he has the quality, but it only comes in phases and now Gray needs to find some more consistent form.

When he was signed last summer, he flew out the blocks scoring three in his first four games but as Everton’s performances fell off, so did Demarai Gray’s, with his next goal coming in the home win vs Arsenal where he scored yet another blockbuster of a goal from distance, this time in stoppage time to give Everton all three points.

Any excuse to watch it again

If Lampard sticks with the same formation he played at Manchester City, we will see Gray upfront alongside Calvert-Lewin which could bring the best out of both players. We have seen under Carlo Ancelotti that when DCL has a partner in attack, he thrives as he has a runner able to chase his knockdowns, but if Lampard goes back to his 433, Gray and Gordon or McNeil whoever is on the other flank, needs to get into more goalscoring positions to help ease the burden on DCL as all hopes on goals fall on his shoulders.
