Everton ace facing race against time after returning injured from international duty

|

Lucas Digne is facing a race against time to feature at West Ham on Saturday, as per the Liverpool Echo.

They are reporting that the French ace returned to Finch Farm over the weekend carrying a thigh injury from the international break, which could now rule him out for our trip to the London Stadium.

He was set to be a part in Didier Deschamps side that beat Moldova 4-1 on Friday, but was forced to sit out the Euro 2020 qualifying clash having developed the knock in training before flying home.

The blow is not so severe that the 23-cap star will miss much of the season, but the 25-year-old is currently considered a doubt to face the Hammers by our medical staff.

Digne, however, is said to be hopeful that his thigh will respond well to treatment over the course of this week, and give him time to prove he can feature on Saturday evening.

If he cannot shrug off the injury in time, Marco Silva may have to turn to Leighton Baines again, now that the Kirkby-born hero is back among the first-team after missing five matches with a rib injury.

Should the 34-year-old make an outing at the London Stadium, it will be his ninth game of the season and sixth start in the Premier League – Baines last started a top-flight encounter in our defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, lasting 37 minutes on the pitch.
