‘Disrespected Everton FC at every turn’ – Many Toffees supporters discuss player reception

|

There has been a lot of chatter on the R/Everton Reddit page lately, with fans discussing how they intend to, or hope others, receive Romelu Lukaku at the weekend.

Should the Belgian feature for Manchester United on Sunday, it will be the first time that he steps foot onto the Goodison Park pitch since we sold him to the Red Devils, as a head injury forced him to sit out the clash at the start of last year.

It will not be the first time that he faces us as a United player, though, as he lined-up for Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford against us in September 2017 and again in October 2018.

Thankfully, when we last came up against the 25-year-old, he was unable to add to his Manchester United goal tally, as we traveled to Old Trafford while he endured an eight-game goal drought – one of which he sat out with a muscle problem.

The first encounter, however, saw Lukaku score and assist for Mourinho’s side as part of a 4-0 win.

The reason why some fans are anticipating a hostile atmosphere for the 79-cap international is that he spent a great deal of his time with us eying a move elsewhere, and celebrated scoring against us by cupping his ear.

Some fans have also drawn comparisons between Lukaku’s departure and that of Ross Barkley, who found himself subjected to a tirade of abuse and jeers when we beat Chelsea last month.

With no certainty that Lukaku will play, however, this is what is currently being said on the R/Everton Reddit page…
