Director reveals Everton rejected club’s “interest” for £8.55m-rated man who “fit like a glove”

Schalke’s Sports Director Jochen Schneider revealed to Kicker that Everton rejected his club’s “interest” in keeping Jonjoe Kenny on loan for another season. The 23-year-old impressed in his season-long loan at Schalke, so much so that the Bundesliga outfit want to retain his services until the end of the 2020/21 campaign, but Everton “saw it differently”.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

As per Sport Witness‘ translation, Schneider said: “Jonjoe suited Schalke (and) fitted like a glove. We have expressed our interest that he will come to us on loan for another year. Everton saw it differently, we have to respect that.”

Kenny made 34 appearances in all competitions for Schalke, scoring two goals with three assists. The 23-year-old has been a regular in Germany, but it remains to be seen if he will be back in England.

Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands may not turn Djibril Sidibe’s loan permanent this summer, so Everton will need another right-back to accompany Seamus Coleman.

The Blues have been linked with Emerson, Jesus Corona, Santiago Arias, Ola Aina and Bouna Sarr among others, but Kenny could solve their problem.

It’s worth noting that Everton don’t appear overly committed to keeping Kenny for the long-term, but they may change their mind. Unless the club can recruit an upgrade in the transfer market, Ancelotti may have to consider an internal solution.
