“Didn’t show up”, “Can’t pass a ball” – So many Everton fans rip into “atrocious” £100k-p/w man

Everton's Theo Walcott in action with Liverpool's Yasser Larouci

Many Everton fans have been ripping into Theo Walcott on social media for his performance in the Merseyside Derby loss to Liverpool in the FA Cup Third Round.

Walcott had started one of our three Premier League games played under Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian’s arrival last month, but opened the match as the inside right forward in the boss’ 3-4-2-1 line-up on Sunday.

His evening would last 79 minutes before the ex-Arsenal winger would serve as Ancelotti’s third and final change of the game, with Bernard brought on in the hopes of creating an equalising goal after Curtis Jones opened the scoring.

Ancelotti was spoiled for choice as to whom he could take off at Anfield after a woeful performance from the Toffees, but opted for Walcott after the 30-year-old lost his ability to find a teammate in the second half after creating chances that ought to have been converted in the first.

Walcott created one big chance to score at Anfield before his second-half departure, having also played three key balls and connected with teammates with two of his four crosses, per Sofa Score statistics.

The £100,000-per-week former England international also helped out defensively with one interception and a successful tackle, but lost possession 14 times, won just one of four ground duels, failed to beat his man with his only attempted dribble and never played an accurate long pass.

By the time he was hauled off, Walcott’s passing accuracy had also dropped to 52% after playing just ten accurate passes.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Walcott’s performance in the FA Cup…

In other Everton news, the club are said to be interested in a midfielder who has been dubbed a ‘disappointment’ for his performances in 2019/20.
