Cenk Tosun scored his first goal of the season against Tottenham on Sunday, heading home from a Lucas Digne cross, and now supporters are calling for Marco Silva to start the 28-year-old against Southampton next Saturday. Tosun has struggled for playing time this season, making only four appearances in all competitions, and could still be on his way out in January.

Silva has given Tosun only 83 minutes of football across the board, preferring Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean and Richarlison in attack. But Everton’s lack of goals this season – 11 goals in 11 Premier League games (16th lowest tally) – could see the Turkish international being given more opportunities to impress. Fans certainly hope so.

Since joining from Besiktas in 2018, Tosun has scored and created 15 goals in 47 appearances. The 28-year-old has been on the periphery after his form diminished in 2018/19 (four goals in 29 games), but his scoring return on Sunday does make his future uncertain. Everton have wanted to sell Tosun for a long time, but the striker wants to stay at Goodison Park.

Everton desperate need a striker who knows where the back of the net is, but whether Tosun will be given the nod over Calvert-Lewin and Kean against Southampton remains to be seen.
