Explained: What is the latest on Cenk Tosun?

|

Cenk Tosun could soon be on his way out of Everton as he’s been short of playing time this season. The Toffees tried and failed to sell Tosun to Galatasaray and a Qatari club over the summer, but what’s the latest on his future?

Where is Tosun?

The 28-year-old has recovered from a groin injury picked up while on international duty with Turkey. Tosun was named on the bench in Everton’s EFL Cup clash with Watford and should be in the squad for Saturday’s meeting with Tottenham (November 3).

What’s his role under Marco Silva?

At the time of writing, Tosun has made just two appearances in all competitions this season, racking up 51 minutes of football. He’s been left of the matchday squad in five Premier League games and was an unused substitute four times. Under Silva, Moise Kean, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are ahead in the pecking order.

Will he be sold in January?

Everton want to offload Tosun, but the Turkish centre-forward doesn’t want to leave the club on a permanent deal. He’s still willing to fight for his place in the side. Sabah (h/t Sport Witness) say Valencia are keen on Tosun while Turkish Football say Besiktas remain keen on the 28-year-old, but it remains to be seen what will happen in January.

Tosun has no future at Goodison Park, but he’s resisting leaving the club. Time will tell whether he’s more open to a loan move.
