Many Everton fans have been chastising Tom Davies on social media for his performance in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.
The Toffees product came off the bench with seven minutes of regular time to play of the midweek affair, though would make a telling contribution to the action by giving away a needless foul which led to the Magpies’ stoppage-time equaliser.
It was the first time since Carlo Ancelotti’s first game at the helm that Davies did not feature in the starting line-up of a Premier League game, with the Italian instead favouring Morgan Schneiderlin as Fabian Delph’s midfield partner.
Schneiderlin offered a calm presence in the centre, though his play was more often a safe approach with the Frenchman playing the ball backwards or sideways rather than looking to connect with our offensive weapons.
Had Davies had a similarly calm approach to his cameo appearance, then the 21-year-old may not have come in for such criticism on social media, including from some supporters who would like to never see the England U21 international in action for the club again.
Should Davies leave on loan this month?
Yes
No
Davies registered seven touches of the ball during his 14 minutes on the field, with which he played four accurate passes from four, though neither were long, a cross or lead to a key chance to score. He also did not register any attempted dribbles, shots or tackles, per Sofa Score data.
The £16.2million-rated midfielder also registered one successful ground duel from three, committed two fouls, lost possession once and was fouled once.

Tom Davies should stick to skateboarding because he’s not good enough to be a premier league footballer

We need Gomes Richy and Gbamin back big time. Delph Davies and Schneiderlin are simply not good enough

Equaliser starts with Davies giving yet another needless free kick away.

If #Ancelotti had brought on two traffic cones instead of Davies and Niasse we would probably have held on for the win. That’s how bad the subs were.#Everton #EFC

How does Davies not make it to the bin? He’s arguably one of our worst players

Last night shows how much DCL and Holgate have come on since Ferguson and now Ancelotti. For me Davies has completely stood still and he’s had his fair share of chances this season, I seriously would send him out on loan it worked for holgate, is he better than dowell 🤷🏻♂️ #everton
