“Classic”, “He’s horrendous” – Lots of Everton fans react to star’s latest blown opportunity

Lots of Everton fans have been reacting on social media after Gylfi Sigurdsson blew an opportunity to hand Iceland a 3-1 lead in their Euro 2020 qualifier tie against Moldova on Sunday.

Sigurdsson maintained his perfect appearance record for Iceland in their qualifying campaign by starting against Moldova, and had restored his country’s lead in the 65th minute after Nicolae Milinceanu equalised shortly after half-time.

Our £31.5million-rated midfielder could not secure his brace from the penalty spot, though, as Sigurdsson saw his right-footed effort saved in the bottom left-hand corner by Alexei Coselev 12 minutes from time.

Iceland were able to hold on to secure the three points despite Sigurdsson’s miss, which was the second penalty he has failed to score for his country in his last three appearances after missing a spot-kick at home to Andorra last month.

The 30-year-old is yet to miss from the spot for us this season, having converted his penalty against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup, but had missed three of his five taken in the Premier League last season.

Six of Sigurdsson’s eight missed penalties in professional football for club and country have come since his transfer to Goodison Park in 2017, in a period he has found the net with five spot-kicks.
