Opinion: Everton won’t sign 22-year-old to strengthen defence in January, here’s why

|

Everton have been linked with a move for Matty Cash, with reports suggesting they’re considering a £12m bid for the Nottingham Forest defender in January, but do the Toffees need another right-back?

Marco Silva currently has Seamus Coleman and Djibril Sidibe at his disposal while Mason Holgate and Cuco Martina can operate in the role too.

And with Everton having the option to sign Sidibe on a permanent deal next summer, at the same time Jonjoe Kenny returns from his successful loan stint at Schalke 04, signing another right-back makes little sense.

Should Everton sign Djibril Sidibe on a permanent deal?

Yes

No

That’s not to say Cash wouldn’t be a decent acquisition, however. The 22-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating four goals.

As per WhoScored, Cash has created 11 chances, whipped in 55 crosses with 24% accuracy, made 12 successful dribbles (57%) and averaged a tackle (39) or interception (20) every 19 minutes. He frequently makes the EFL Team of the Week and has been a standout performer for Forest.

That being said, Silva doesn’t need Cash if Everton are to sign Sidibe permanently next summer. And if Coleman stays, the Toffees could go into next season with three right-backs in the squad.
