Begovic: ‘We’re a Work-in-Progress’

Everton’s second choice keeper Asmir Begovic has stated that although the club continues to be a work-in-progress, Frank Lampard’s side are on the right track.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international insists that there will always be setbacks during such a massive period of upheaval for the club, but the response to such situations is what is important.

Indeed, Everton’s form in the build-up to the mid-season break was less than ideal, with a 2-0 home defeat to Leicester City followed by back-to-back beatings at Bournemouth, with a 4-1 League Cup exit followed by a 3-0 league defeat 4 days later.

However, Begovic states that it remains vital that the Blues do not dwell on the disastrous week last month, insisting that the squad is determined to improve Everton’s fortunes.

The goalkeeper said, “I think it’s very important to not get too bogged down by the week heading into the World Cup break. Overall, I think we’ve been progressing alright. There’s been a lot of change over the past 10 months since the manager came in and then a big summer, so we’re definitely a work in progress.

“You’re going to have setbacks at times and you’re going to have to take your lumps – the week before we went to Australia was certainly less than ideal for us.

“There’s a determination between us to get to the place where we want to be.”

The 35-year-old has made 3 appearances for the Toffees so far this campaign, including the 1-0 Premier League win over West Ham at Goodison Park in September, as well as a 1-0 victory at Fleetwood Town in the League Cup, and the 4-1 defeat against his former club Bournemouth in the same competition.

Everton will be looking to start the second half of the season with a win with the visit of Wolves to Goodison Park on Boxing Day
