‘Bargain’, ‘Reasons to buy and not’ – Many Everton fans react as Brands moves for top target

|

Many Everton supporters have been reacting on social media after The Telegraph claimed Director of Football Marcel Brands had made informal contact with RB Leipzig over Jean-Kevin Augustin.

We are not the only side showing an interest in the 21-year-old, though, as the daily newspaper add that Leicester City also made contact recently, as they look for options who could reshape Brendan Rodgers’ side – the Foxes appear to have cooled their interest in Youri Tielemans, as well, as AS Monaco are understood to want €40million (£35m) for the Belgian.

Augustin, on the other hand, is expected to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, but would set any interested party back €20million (£17.5m) as he has three years remaining on a £65,000-a-week deal penned in 2017 upon his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.

The former French youth international has been linked with a move to Goodison Park in the past, too, as reports in Italy claimed the Paris-born striker had emerged as our first choice summer signing earlier in the year.

Those claims would now make sense, as The Telegraph add that Cenk Tosun is still expected to be moved on in the summer if a suitable offer comes our way, which would leave the club lacking competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Reports in Germany last month also suggested Augustin had been made aware of his uncertain future at Leipzig, as he, along with Bruma and Stefan Ilsanker, were unlikely to be offered a role next season when Julian Nagelsmann arrives from TSG Hoffenheim.

Leipzig had paid €13million (£11.3m) to sign the PSG product two years ago, and in return have seen the 5 ft 8 centre-forward net 20 goals in 66 games across all competitions, but has never been a regular starter at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig thanks to the efforts of Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen.

Over the course of the current term, Augustin has played 1,299 minutes across his 29 outings – the equivalent of 14.4 full matches – scoring eight goals, assisting two.

So when it was shared on Reddit that Brands had made informal contact with Leipzig over Augustin’s situation, here’s how some of the Goodison Park faithful reacted…
